A Pakistan army official, Major Muhammad Asghar, who was deployed at the Torkham border, died of fatal coronavirus on Sunday.
Army’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) issued a statement, saying: “Major Muhammad Asghar laid his life in the line of duty at Torkham border in fight against COVID-19. He was managing Torkham border terminal to ensure screening of people and move of logistic convoys to Afghanistan.”

The statement further said that the late officer was evacuated to CMH Peshawar when he faced breathing problems. “He was put on ventilator but succumbed to Corona Virus. There is no cause bigger than serving the Nation,” the statement added.
The deadly coronavirus has claimed 662 lives in Pakistan, while 8,212 patients have recovered successfully and have been discharged from the hospitals.
The national tally of coronavirus confirmed cases has risen to 30,466, with the provincial governments of Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan confirming 11,093, 11,480, 4,669, 2,017 cases respectively. Meanwhile, 422 cases in Gilgit-Baltistan, 679 in Islamabad, and 86 in Kashmir have been reported to date.
Despite the alarming facts, the ruling party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had decided to lift the countrywide lockdown imposed to counter the fatal coronavirus outbreak.
