IG KP Police Says Arif Wazir Was Murdered For Giving Interview In Afghanistan
Inspector General Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Police Sanaullah Abbasi has said that Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) leader and MNA Ali Wazir’s cousin Arif Wazir was murdered for giving an interview to a private TV channel in Afghanistan.

The IG KP during his interview to journalist Munizae Jahangir on her show, said that the provincial police was investigating the killing of Arif Wazir. “These incidents happen as a reaction when they [PTM leaders] go to Afghanistan and give [controversial] statements,” he said.

Sanaullah Abbasi said that the incident definitely has a background that the police has been trying to figure out. He further suggested that PTM leaders’ recent visit to Afghanistan has something to do with Arif Wazir’s assassination.

Last week, the PTM leader was attacked by ‘unidentified’ armed persons in an open fire from a moving vehicle, near his residence in Wana. He was shifted to a hospital in Islamabad, but he succumbed to his injuries on May 2.

The news was confirmed by Wana Station House Officer (SHO) Usman Khan who said that Wazir was strolling outside his residence in Ghwa Khwa near Wana on Friday when armed persons opened fire from a moving vehicle. He was initially admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital, Wana, but later shifted to an undisclosed hospital in Islamabad.
