Justice Isa Raises 15 Tough Questions About PM's Accountability Czar Shehzad Akbar
In a document submitted to the Supreme Court (SC), Justice Qazi Faez Isa has questioned if Special Assistant to Prime Minister Shehzad Akbar is eligible for the position of Head of Asset Recovery Unit (ARU). The judge has raised 15 questions in which he also mentioned the offshore properties of Shehzad Akbar and family and the tax evasions that seem to be taking place.

He has also challenged the presidential reference that was filed against him saying that it was based on a personal malicious intent.

While questioning Akbar’s eligibility, he said, “Who appointed Shahzad Akbar?”

“Did the government announce the vacancy in newspapers or were applications sought for the appointment of the chairman of the Asset Recovery Unit?”

He also inquired if the appointment of the ARU head was made through a Federal Public Service Commission and if not, how is he being held at this position?

The terms and conditions of his job were to be described in a public document, he said. Justice Isa also asked if Akbar holds a dual nationality or just Pakistani.

Justice Isa also said that Akbar needs to make public the details about his and his family members’ nationality. Their tax filings should also be made a part of the proof.

“What’s his income tax and wealth status and from when he started submitting his tax returns?” he asked.

He also questioned the properties and other assets that the SAPM and his family owns. Justice Isa also reminded the court that the previous attorney general Anwar Mansoor Khan, Law Minister Farogh Naseem and SAPM Akbar were found guilty for the contempt of court.
