Assistant Commissioner Khar Bajaur Fazal-ur-Rahim has beaten up a pakora vendor for violating the lockdown imposed to counter the spread of deadly coronavirus.

A video of the assistant commissioner that is said to be from the initial days of the lockdown has now gone viral on social media. In the video, Fazal-ur-Rahim can be seen beating a poor vendor with a stick for violating the coronavirus lockdown.

People on Twitter have been criticising the government official for abusing his power. A social media user said, “As long as critical thinking is suppressed, be it CSS, MBBS, PMS, or even PhD, there shall be moron like AC Khar to do such baseless actions.” He urged the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) to take action against the government official.

Another user tweeted: “Such a shameful act. He must be suspended and punished for this brutality. Reminds of colonial era. What a mindset.”

However, after facing severe backlash, Fazal-ur-Rahim tweeted that he had apologised to that vendor. I apologised to that person on the same day when there was no news in media then. And [I am] still sorry and will always be for this,” he said.
