Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ)’s Corona Rescue Committee released a report on Tuesday, saying that 159 journalists have contracted coronavirus on line of duty, out of which three lost their lives in Pakistan.
The journalists’ body said that two journalists died of coronavirus in Multan, while one lost his life in Sindh’s Sukkur. Rescue Committee Chairman Zulfiqar Ali said that the report has been sent to the government officials. “Affected journalists will be given Rs 100,000 as compensation money,” he said.
PFUJ’s committee noted that Punjab’s capital Lahore remained the most risky area for working journalists, since as many as 84 journalists tested positive for the fatal covid-19 in the city. “No coronavirus case among the journalists is reported in Abbottabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur, and Rahim Yar Khan,” the report revealed.
The committee further detailed that nine journalists were tested positive for covid-19 in Karachi, 24 in Islamabad-Rawalpindi, 12 in Peshawar, 17 in Quetta, five in Multan, six in Sukkur, two in Gujranwala and one contracted the deadly virus in Hyderabad.

The national tally of coronavirus confirmed cases has risen to 45,189, with the provincial governments of Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan confirming 15,976, 17,947, 6,554, 2,885 cases respectively. Meanwhile, 556 cases in Gilgit-Baltistan, 1,138 in Islamabad, and 133 in Kashmir have been reported to date.
