Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia Sheikh Abdul Aziz al Sheikh has asked the public to perform the Taraveeh prayers during Ramzan and the Eid-ul-Fitr feast and prayers at their homes in light of the coronavirus situation in the country.
Sheikh also mentioned that the Taraveeh prayers can be performed at home and one does not need to go to the mosque amidst a pandemic to offer them. Preventive measures to contain the virus need to be taken seriously, he said.
The holy month of Ramzan starts from April 25 in Pakistan.
As a precaution against the novel Covid-19, Saudi authorities had stopped the weekly prayers that took place five times a day inside mosques, since the mid of March.
On Thursday, Masjid e Nabwi in the holy city of Medina said it was banning events of iftar food distribution amongst the lower income people that takes place during the Ramzan.
The Saudi kingdom has reported 6,380 cases of Covid-19, the highly contagious respiratory disease caused by the new coronavirus, and 83 deaths so far.
A curfew, initially set for three weeks, runs from 3pm to 6am local time everywhere in the country. For both this and the 24-hour curfew, residents may go out only for essential needs.
The interior ministry grants permits for vital personnel to move around. Violators face fines and jail time.
