PTI Govt Did Not Observe Allama Iqbal’s Death Anniversary, No Official Statement Issued
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led government did not observe national poet Allama Muhammad Iqbal's 82nd death anniversary on Tuesday.

Even the statements paying tribute which are usually issued on death anniversaries of national icons were not given by Prime Minister Imran Khan, President Arif Alvi, and provincial chief executives.

Despite the countrywide lockdown in view of the coronavirus situation, cabinet meetings are being held. Therefore, a formal visit of top government officials – especially those belonging to Punjab – to the tomb of Allama Iqbal should have been arranged.

Dr Iqbal was born on November 9, 1877 in Sialkot. He was a public figure of the subcontinent and one of the main exponents of the Pakistan Movement. He was regarded as a Sufi poet of the modern age and continues to be celebrated for his deep poetry and philosophy that infused a revolutionary spirit in the Muslim youth of British Indian.

Allama Iqbal’s poetry has been translated into Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, English and several other languages to date. He died on April 21, 1938. Senator Waleed Iqbal, the grandson of Allam Iqbal, is the member of PTI and currently serving as the chairman of Senate Committee for Defense.
