Pakistani Taxi Drivers In Spain Emerge As Heroes By Giving Free Rides To Healthcare Workers
A Pakistan-origin citizen Sheraz Syed, living in Barcelona, Spain, has emerged as a hero in times of the coronavirus pandemic. Sheraz works as a taxi driver in the city and he has been putting his life at risk to help the doctors and healthcare professionals in need. Along with his team of 195 Pakistanis, the taxi driver gives free rides to healthcare workers as a mark of respect for their work amid the coronavirus crisis.

When a ban was imposed on public transport in view of the coronavirus situation in the country Shahbaz Ahmad thought he could use his taxi to offer free rides. Shahbaz's team has now been joined by 200 volunteers from various nationalities.

He told Al-Jazeera that the idea of the initiative was to honour the healthcare professional who are saving lives during the ongoing pandemic.

Shahbaz further said that he knew how risky the job of taxi driver is these days, as there have been reports of the drivers getting infected with coronavirus. But he vows to continue these services for as long as he can. The volunteers take all necessary precautions during the rides and wear gloves and use santizers at all times.
