75 families of daily wage workers were rendered homeless in Islamabad, Sector G today, while their makeshift huts were bulldozed by the capital city’s administration during the nationwide lockdown amid the coronavirus crisis. A video doing the rounds on social media showed how the government has left people homeless during a pandemic. Many social media users were outraged at the action and called on the government to show empathy.

Later, Human Rights Minister, Shireen Mazari took notice of the situation and claimed that she was unaware of the activities taking place in G11/4. She has warned that action would be taken against the police officials involved in the operation.

The federal government claims that Sector G is inhabited by ‘illegal occupants’ who have not vacated the land even after being paid by the foundation.
