According to the new standard operating procedures (SOPs) announced by the government that eased the coronavirus lockdown regulations in Punjab, barbers were allowed to open their businesses from Wednesday onward.

However, the Punjab Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department notified on another announcement on Wednesday, that the barbers cannot resume providing services during the work hours, and that their business falls under the category of businesses excluded from functioning till April 25.

According to Express Tribune, some barbers across the country still violated the government’s regulations and opened the salons on Wednesday. The media reports on Tuesday that claimed that the barbers can resume gave rise to this misunderstanding among them amid a lack of clarity from the government.

Salon owners have complained that they rely on media reports mostly from television and they were not notified by the government about the issue directly. Some of them also showed concern for the expenses running out and their savings not being enough to support the family, hence the urgency.

The government of Punjab on Tuesday decided that almost 47 government administrative departments and different private sectors will remain open during the ongoing lock-down which has now been extended for two weeks in view of the rapidly increasing coronavirus cases in the province, especially Lahore.
