4 Days After Prisoner’s Death, Body Yet To Be Handed Over To Heirs
In Lahore’s Camp Jail, the authorities have not handed over the dead body of a deceased prisoner, identified as Imran, to his heirs even after four days of the death.

City 42 reported that Imran’s family was informed on Wednesday that the prisoner had passed away in Lahore’s Services Hospital. The police officials said that the dead body has not been tested for coronavirus yet, due to which the body has not been delivered to Imran’s heirs. On the other hand, the family of the deceased prisoner has tired of visiting the jail and hospital again and again to receive the deceased's body to perform last rituals.

According to the Punjab prison department, 80 prisoners have been diagnosed with the deadly virus and the authorities have tested 527 prisoner and jail staffers for coronavirus to date. The coronavirus positive patients are shifted to jail hospital and quarantine centre to protect the other prisoners from contracting the fatal virus.

Last week, Supreme Court (SC) overturned the Islamabad High Court (IHC)'s decision to release the under-trial prisoners due to the coronavirus outbreak in Pakistan. The SC based its verdict on grounds that the high courts do not have the powers to take suo motu notices on the matters that concern the Supreme Court only and in doing so, they had undermined the legislature of the state. This law cannot be toppled under any extreme scenarios.
