Sindh government’s spokesperson Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Wednesday said that the coordination between the province and federal government with regards to countering coronavirus was lacking.
Murtaza Wahab, while addressing a press conference in Karachi, said that the federal government needed to improve its virus monitoring system at airports, adding that it was not the jurisdiction provincial government to take measures at airports.
He said that approximately 2,300 people who had entered the province were contacted and wherever required, were tested by the Sindh government. "Those who tested positive were immediately shifted to isolation wards and their contacts were quarantined. But, unfortunately, there is a bit of a shortcoming in the federal government's responsibility in this regard," the Sindh government's spokesperson said.
He said that efficient response has not been seen from the federal government to counter coronavirus in the country. “Monitoring surveillance on airports is outside the jurisdiction of the provincial government, so I urged the federal authorities to step up and work in this regard,” Murtaza Wahab said.
He also urged the media not to share the personal details of the patients diagnosed with the virus, saying that the government was not disclosing their identities either. He said, "It is our basic duty to protect other people's privacy.”
