The Aurat March in Islamabad came under attack by Lal Masjid affiliates who pelted stones, bricks and shoes at the participants of the march. According to reports, the attack caused a stampede in the march.

Eyewitnesses have been quoted as saying that the attack took place in the presence of police which acted as silent spectator.
Lal Masjid had earlier issued threats to the Aurat March and filed a complaint against the organisers accusing them of 'promoting obscenity'. Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) is also taking out their own march to counter the Aurat March. The religious hardliners including Lal Masjid affiliates took out a 'Haya March' to counter the Aurat March. The administration is facing criticism for their failure to handle the situation. Participants of the march are of the opinion that the law enforcement agencies did not provide them the security that they were supposed to.
