Following the deal of government authorities with ousted khateeb of Lal Masjid Maulana Abdul Aziz that they would allot 20 Kanals to the cleric for construction of Jamia Hafsa, people took to Twitter to criticise government’s agreement with a known extremist figure, who has been involved in hate speech and other crimes.

Economist and public policymaker Mosharraf Zaidi has said that the leader of PTM were arrested for peaceful protest, while ‘Daesh-loving’ Maulana Abdul Aziz got 20 Kanals of land after occupying mosques and threatening countrywide anarchy.

Another Twitter user has criticised government officials for approaching Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) – a banned organisation to strike a deal with Maulana Abdul Aziz.

“Ehsanullah Ehsan gets a house in Peshawar and a trip to Turkey. Maulana Abdul Aziz gets 20 kanals of land,” one of the users said.

Maulana Aziz had returned to Lal Masjid around two weeks ago, reiterating his claim to be its prayer leader. The officers from the capital administration approached Lal Masjid to meet Maulana Aziz, when the situation turned serious on Thursday night. In July last year, the capital administration had removed Maulana Abdul Aziz as the praying leader of Lal Masjid and imposed a three-month ban on his entry in the mosque.
