Govt Withholds Salaries Of PDI's Abolished Social Media Cell
Islamabad: The employees of Press Information Department (PID)'s social media cell which was recently abolished by the government due to lack of funds are awaiting their salaries. In December, the PTI government shut down the cell merely six months after its formation reportedly because it did not have enough funds to pay the salaries of the team.

The employees were suspended without any prior notice.

The social media cell was set up at the PID on orders from Prime Minister Imran Khan. It aimed at curbing the spread of fake news and issue 'verified information' to the public.

However, within six months of its launch, the government decided to shut down the cell and dismissed all serving employees with immediate effect.
