China is considering dispatching a 100,000-member army of locusts-eating ducks to help Pakistan get rid of a locust infestation. According to a local Chinese newspaper, the locust-eating army of ducks will be sent from the Chinese province of Zheijiang. This comes in the wake of Chinese experts' visit to Pakistan to give their input on a response to the infestation in Pakistan.
The natural diet of these ducks includes insects, and they were used to counter a similar infestation of locusts in China two decades ago, and it was considerably effective.
Compared to pesticides, the use of these ducks is less damaging to environment and also less expensive.
