The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) has fined Channel 92 for "airing defamatory content" against Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Syed Zulfikar Bukhari. The fine imposed amounts to Rs. 1 million.
As per APP, Channel 92 violated clause 22 (1) of the Electronic Media (Programmes and Advertisement) Code of Conduct, 2015, by airing allegations against Zulfikar Bukhari in their programmes Jawab Chahiye and News Report during October 2019.
PEMRA has also issued a warning to the channel and anchorperson Dr Danish that strict action will be taken against news programming that defames anyone in future.
Bukhari while talking to APP said that Dr Danish "was wrong on everything in his one-hour talk show including screening of incorrect facts". Bukhari added that he "was portrayed as a traitor by questioning his loyalty to Pakistan and he was compared with Hussain Haqani."
