After approving the recommendations of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), the government has increased the fuel prices for January to Rs116.60 with a rise of Rs2.61 per litre.

The finance ministry issued a notification in this regard, which also stated that the price of High-Speed Diesel had been increased to Rs127.26. Meanwhile, the price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas, has been increased by Rs23.54 per kg, with the new price being Rs151.82 per kg.

People took to social media to voice their resentment over the rise in prices. One user, while wishing people a happy new year, said this was a naya and handsome Pakistan.

One user stated that ‘prime minister select’ was helpless in face of this decision by the ‘viceroy’ of IMF by Dr Hafeez Shaikh.

Another user called it a new year gift to the people of Pakistan.

One user opined that how prices were being increased by the PTI government was similar to the behaviour of the previous governments.
