Thousands of mourners took to the streets as Iranian general Qasim Suleimani’s coffin was paraded in the streets of multiple cities in Iran.

The coffin was paraded in Baghdad before being sent to Iran, where processions were held in multiple cities including Ahvaz.

Ahvaz saw one of the biggest crowds, with the procession extending for miles.

People commented that the huge crowds were a reflection of how loved was Qasim Suleimani by the people of the Middle East.

The funeral was attended by senior Irani military and religio-political figures including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.

Many also compared Qasim Suleimani’s funeral procession to United States President’s inauguration ceremony, commenting that the former’s funeral had more people than Donald Trump’s inauguration.

Iranian General Qasim Soleimani was killed in a drone strike near Baghdad airport on Friday. Qasim Soleimani was the commander of the Al-Quds force, which deals with the Iranian regime’s external military operations. The general was important when it came to Iran’s influence in its neighbourhood, especially Syria and Iraq.

Tensions in the Middle East have been high as Iran has vowed revenge. On Saturday, foreign media reported that rockets launched by Iranian-backed militias landed near the US Embassy in Baghdad and an Iraqi airbase housing US troops.
