Resolution Seeking Provision Of Daycare Facilities In Workplaces Submitted In KP Assembly

A resolution regarding mandatory provision of day care facilities at workplaces has been submitted in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly.

The resolution was submitted by KP Member of Provincial Assembly Dr Sumera Shams. The resolution stated that throughout the country, working mothers faced issues due to their inability to bring their children to work.

The resolution cited the cases of a Balochistan Assembly MPA, who was barred from the assembly for bringing her child to work. It also referenced the case of a woman journalist, who was employed by an NGO in Peshawar, and was forced to resign for bringing her child to work.

The resolution demanded that every government and private organisation should be obligated to make workplaces ‘mothers friendly’ according to International Labour Organisation’s Convention No 183.

The resolution further said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s assembly would be made the first ‘mothers friendly’ assembly of the country and day care facilities would be provided there.

The resolution comes days after a Peshawar NGO, Community Appraisal and Motivation Programme, forced one of their employees to resign because they were not willing to let her bring her child to work.
