Petition Filed In SC Against NAB Amendment Ordinance
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-led government’s National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Ordinance 2019 has been challenged in the Supreme Court.

According to a report in Express Tribune, a petition calling for the immediate suspension of the ordinance was submitted on Monday. The petition questions whether the amendment is in violation of certain articles of the constitution.

The petition has also asked if the ordinance was liable to be struck down and declared void ab initio due to being inconsistent with Articles 2(a), 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, 10(a), 14, 18 and 25, 37 and 38 of the constitution.

Moreover, the petitioner had termed the amendment ‘highly discriminatory’ and has called it an attempt to classify society based on ‘have’ and ‘have nots’, instead of equality or rule of law.

The petitioner has further questioned whether the PTI government was attempting to legitimise corruption for a selected class of persons with financial power.
