Member of National Assembly from North Waziristan Mohsin Dawar has raised the issue of enforced disappearances and charges of sedition against activists and lawyer in the National Assembly Standing Committee on Human Rights, calling for their recovery a day after being reappointed in the committee.

In a meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Human Rights, Mohsin Dawar raised the issue of enforced disappearances and use of sedition laws against activists and lawyers in front of Human Rights Minister Shireen Mazari.

The parliamentarian from North Waziristan specifically mentioned the cases of Alamgir Wazir, Idrees Khattak. Moreover, he also called for the establishment of a sub-committee to look into Kharqamar incident.

Human rights activist Idris Khattak, who had been working on the missing persons case, was allegedly kidnapped by unidentified men in November.

Alamgir Wazir, a Pashtun student activist, had gone missing after attending the Students Solidarity March, wherein he had criticised the state’s conduct in FATA in a speech.

Last week, Advocate Shafiq Ahmad Awan of Okara has been abducted from near his home in Okara, the second time after his previous abduction in June. The lawyer has been critical of state policies and has written in favour of civilian supremacy.
