The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council has strongly condemned the attitude of Director General Inter-Services Public Relations Major General Asif Ghafoor regarding the high treason verdict delivered against General (r) Musharraf.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council stated that the expressions of DG ISPR were a clear cut violation of legal and constitutional provisions and were in contempt of superior judiciary.
The bar council stated that there was a proper legal path for raising issues with a court’s judgment, and the manner in which the DG ISPR had criticised the judgement gave the impression that all institutions in Pakistan were subservient to follow dictation of armed forces.
Moreover, the statement said that the attitude adopted by the federal government and its ministers showed that the ruling party had been installed by the army.
The statement further said that the lawyers’ community strongly condemns this insulting attitude of the army and the government.
To protest this attitude, the lawyer community has announced to boycott court proceedings on December 19.
The statement added that the lawyer community was committed to the independence, respect and sovereignty of the judiciary of the country.
