The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has initiated an inquiry into the irregularities in Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project on the directives of the Peshawar High Court.

The inquiry team consists of five members and is headed by FIA Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Anti-Corruption Wing Additional Director Dr Miya Saeed.

Sources in FIA informed Naya Daur that a technical specialist from National Highway Authority will examine the road safety and infrastructure measurements of the BRT.

Former KP chief minister Pervaiz Khattak and former transport minister Shah Mehmood Wazir and the Peshawar Development Authority have been directed to provide the required material necessary for submission of the inquiry report.

The FIA inquiry report is to be submitted within 45 days to the Peshawar High Court. It will check whether the material infrastructure of BRT corridor is according to the expenditure done on the project.

The report will investigate if any kickbacks were received or corruption was carried out during the BRT project.

The PHC has issued a detail verdict in which irregularities were pointed out in terms of 35 questions.  The FIA was asked to submit inquiry report regarding the accusations.

Sources have suggested that the FIA report will make it clear whether metro buses would be able to run in Peshawar or not. The inquiry report will also reveal how much time would be required to complete the project and will identify those responsible for the delay and increase in cost.
