DG ISPR’s Statement About Musharraf Verdict Contempt Of Court, Says Pakistan Bar Council

The Pakistan Bar Council has said that the statement of director general of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) in which he criticised the judgement of the special court in the high treason case against General (r) Musharraf amounts to contempt of court.

The PBC has issued a statement condemning and disapproving the DG ISPR’s statement and has said that it was a violation of constitutional and legal provisions.

It emphasised that if the DG ISPR had reservations about the judgement, there was a proper legal procedure to raise them.

The statement further said that the manner in which the judgement had been criticised by a military official gave the impression that all institutions of Pakistan were subservient to the armed forces.

The PBC has also stated that the way the judgement had been criticised by the federal government ministers showed that the ruling party had been installed by the army.
