CM Sindh Asks FBR To Refund Tax Paid By Edhi Foundation

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has asked the Federal board of Revenue (FBR) to refund the tax paid by the Edhi Welfare Foundation (EWF) on the import of vehicles.

The EWF had payed 180 million rupees on the import of 150 vehicles in 2016 to 2017 and the import of 120 vehicles and 12 rescue boats in 2018. All these vehicles, according to Murad Ali Shah, were turned into ambulances.

Saad Faisal, trustee EWF, adds that a 4x4 Landcruiser donated by him, to be turned into a luxury ambulance for hilly and flood affected areas, to the EWF has also been in the custody of customs for 4 months. EWF spokesperson Muhammad Bilal further stated that this cost them 2.5 million rupees in terms of payments for the container and space.

Faisal, along with a two-member team, met with the CM Sindh’s Special Assistant on Human Rights Veerji Kohli to raise this issue. Kohli then forwarded this to the CM.

The CM further stated that the EWF has been helped by past governments and hasn’t been required to pay a single rupee in taxes. The taxes imposed by this government on an organization working for the welfare of the people are too high.

Kohli also added that Sindh supports the cause of the EWF and that these taxes are unjust. The organization had imported 1500 vehicles in the past 20 years without any hurdles.
