Senate Committee Takes Suo Motu Notice of Five-Year-Old’s Rape In Kurram

The chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Interior Abdul Rehman Malik has taken a suo motu notice of the sexual assault and murder of a five-year-old girl in Pewar area of Kurram Agency.

The chairman directed the interior secretary, IG Police and the home secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to take immediate action to trace the culprits and the motives behind this gruesome incident. He further directed them to submit a detailed report within a week.

Moreover, the chairman also directed the interior secretary to extend his fullest cooperation to the KP authorities so that they can conduct DNA tests. 

The committee expressed its dismay over the alarming increase in incidents of child abuse across the country.

Consideration of NACTA (Amendment) Bill, 2019:

Meanwhile, Senator Mian Muhammad Ateeq Shaikh briefed the committee that the National Counter Terrorism Authority was mandated to devise a counter terrorism strategy that should address short, medium and long-term goals pertaining to the eradication of terrorism.

The committee discussed aspects of the proposed bill, however, the Interior Ministry opposed amendments to NACTA Act 2013.

The chairman of the committee appointed Senator Muhammad Javed Abbasi to look into the proposed amendments by Senator Mian Muhammad Ateeq Shaikh and present his own suggestions in the next meeting of the committee.
