The Rehbar Committee of the opposition has concluded its talks and has upheld its earlier demand of the prime minister’s resignation and has called for new elections to be held without the supervision of the military.
While addressing a press conference in the federal capital, the convener of the Rehbar Committee, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl’s (JUI-F) leader Akram Durrani has stated that the opposition’s political parties were united behind the demand that the prime minister should resign and new elections should be held.
He added that in case the demands were not met, the parties were considering resignation of its members from the parliament, shutter down strikes across the country, and the blocking of highways.
Durrani also stated that the opposition had decided to stick to its earlier demands, adding, “We are democratic people and are open to dialogue.”
The JUI-F leader also apprised media that there were more caravans on their way to Islamabad. He further said that people on their way to participate in the sit-in were being stopped.
He added that the party would decide whether it would go to D-Chowk or not.
Moreover, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) leader Ahsan Iqbal said that the government had destroyed the economy and it was not in their hands to stop the economic collapse.
Awami National Party General Secretary Mian Iftikhar said that relations with Afghanistan should be improved, and like the Kartarpur Corridor, more steps should be taken to improve relations with neighbouring countries.
