Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) leader Mufti Kifayatullah was injured in an attack by unknown people in Mansehra on Wednesday morning.

The JUI-F leader was with his two sons and a friend, who were also injured in the attack. They were taken to King Abdullah Teaching Hospital.

According to medical professionals, Mufti Kifayatullah received injuries to his back, hand and other parts of the body as a result of the attack.

Videos on social media showed the injured leader lying on a stretcher in the hospital.

A news report in Dawn stated that Kifayatullah’s son had lodged an FIR under Section 324 (attempt to murder), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon) and 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

Kifayatullah’s son, Hussain, stated that the attackers were in two vehicles, and had stopped their car near Baidra Road and attacked them with iron rods.

One of Kifayatullah’s sons has claimed that the attackers were those against whom Mufti Kifayatullah spoke publicly. He added that the attackers did not want to eliminate him but only wanted to send the message not to speak against them.

People have taken to social media to condemn the attack and demand the arrests of those involved.

Awami National Party Vice President Saqib Ullah Chamkhani opined that the attack on JUI-F leader by masked attackers was condemnable act, adding that the episode had signature prints of ‘Unknown’.
