The government is considering that an emergency be imposed in the country to deal with any untoward situation resulting from developments pertaining to the extension of Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa.
A report in The News by Saaleh Zaafir stated the government was currently considering such measures and that no conclusive decision had been made since majority of the senior officials opposed the proposal to impose emergency.
The report said that as of yet, the possibility of an emergency being promulgated could not be ruled out.
The leaders who supported emergency measures were of the view that the imposition of ‘emergency-plus’ in the past had resulted in positive outcomes and experimenting with similar measures would not be harmful.
The pro-emergency officials were also of the view that the government should engender harmony in society and that chaos should be avoided, which would aid in reducing the suffering of people.
