The federal government has decided to appoint former director general of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lieutenant General (r) Asim Saleem Bajwa as the head of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor Authority (CPECA). In this regard, the federal cabinet has received a summary for approval.
In October, the CPECA was established through an ordinance promulgated by President Arif Alvi, a move that had been rejected by the parliamentary committee on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
The formation of the authority had been announced by Prime Minister Imran Khan in August. The authority was said to be aimed at speeding up activities and projects related to CPEC to ensure their timely completion.
The prime minister had said that CPECA would facilitate coordination among concerned departments and the timely completion of CPEC would not only benefit Pakistan and China, but the entire region.
