The suspect behind the rape and murder of Chunian minors had evaded justice twice before his eventual capture on Tuesday.
According to a report in Dawn, the police had gotten hold of the alleged serial killer and rapist, Sohail Shahzad on September 22. However, they released him after he gave satisfactory answers in the investigation regarding the Chunian case.
According to police, “Shahzad had suddenly left a naan shop in Chunian and started working in Lahore after one other child, Faizan, went missing.”
The police later arrested Shahzad from his house this Tuesday following a confirmation of the Punjab Forensic Science Authority (PFSA) that his DNA matched with Faizan, the missing boy.
Meanwhile, an anti-terrorism court remanded Sohail Shahzad in 15-day police custody.
During his hearing, Sohail had pled to the judge to instruct the police not to torture him.
Police had arrested Sohail on Tuesday under charges of kidnapping, raping and killing four children. Three of the children’s remains had been found sand dunes near Chunian Industrial Area, while one child had gone missing from Rana Town.

Police let go of Shahzad without conducting a DNA test. However, they later became suspicious as it came to their knowledge that Shahzad was going to Lahore.

Shahzad had earlier been booked in a sodomy case and had been handed a five-year imprisonment by a local court. Shahzad allegedly pressured the family of the victim to reconcile and was released from jail after 1.5 years.
