The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday heard the appeal filed by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz President Shahbaz Sharif pertaining to the release of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif from the custody of National Accountability Bureau (NAB). The court was informed by the former premier’s lawyer that Nawaz Sharif’s health condition was extremely serious.

The petition was heard by a two-member bench. The prosecutor of NAB informed the court that every life was precious and the former prime condition was treatable.

A medical board led by Services Hospital Principal Ayaz Mahmood on Thursday diagnosed the former premier with acute immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP), a bleeding disorder, whereby the platelets are destroyed by the immune system.

A news report in Dawn cited a board member as saying that doctors were hopeful that Nawaz’s condition would improve in a few days. Doctors have further stated that the disease was treatable.

Moreover, Nawaz Sharif’s physician Dr Ayaz submitted a detailed medical report of Nawaz Sharif in court. Nawaz Sharif’s lawyer, Ashtar Ausaf, told the court that the health condition of the former prime minister was extremely serious.

The former premier’s physician told the court that Nawaz’s platelets were constantly reducing and that the hospital had tested him for dengue.

He further revealed that doctors injected platelets into Nawaz’s blood everyday, but something kept destroying his platelets. He added that Nawaz would need to be injected with steroids.

Dr Ayaz told the court that Nawaz Sharif suffers from several other ailments.

Yesterday, PML-N president had filed a petition in Islamabad High Court calling for Nawaz to be granted a bail in the Al Azizia case.
