Trade activities via the Taftan border between Pakistan and Iran remained suspended for the fourth day due to ongoing protests against the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and Pakistan Customs.
The strikes are being led by the Quetta Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI) and a number of importers, exporters, clearing and forwarding agents are in support of the protests.
Protesters have made it clear that they would continue with their strikes as long as their problems are not solved.
A news report in Dawn cited a tax collection officer at Taftan border as saying that Customs and FBR suffered a loss of over Rs200 million during the last four days.
A security official stated to media that there was no export and import at the border.
The QCCI and representatives of other bodies have alleged that FBR and senior Customs officials posted in Quetta and Islamabad are promoting smuggling in Balochistan.
Traders have complained that despite paying duties and taxes on items from Iran, their trucks are still stopped without any reason.
