Authorities have put more than 800 reserves from Punjab Police's training institutions at the disposal of 36 districts and have conducted anti-riot exercises to prevent a deterioration of law and order in light of the upcoming ‘Azadi March’.
In this regard, Rawalpindi district, which is the closest to the final point of the march, received the highest number of reserves, numbering 120. Moreover, Attock, Lahore, Rahim Yar Khan and Multan have also received considerable numbers of reserves.
The district police officers (DPOs) have been commanded to use the reserves to reinforce their already deployed forces in case of an emergency situation.
Meanwhile, hundreds of police personnel held anti-riot drills at Police Lines Headquarters in Rawalpindi on Wednesday. The exercises were held as part of police’s preparation to deal with JUI-F’s march next week.
Police released a video showing the drill led by Rawalpindi City Police Officer (CPO) Mohammad Faisal Rana.
Police could be seen conducting a mock exercise whereby they were practicing the use of water cannons. Personnel of the police could also be seen with anti-riot equipment, including body armour, safety helmets, shield and batons.
Police have stated that about 5000 additional members each had been called from the Punjab Constabulary and the Frontier Constabulary to provide security to the public during the march.
Authorities have also arranged around 120 freight containers to seal the entry points and roads leading to Islamabad.
Moreover, police have also requested four companies of Rangers while personnel of Pakistan Army would also be on standby.
