Cartoonist Khalid Hussain was fired by The Nation on September 25 for drawing a caricature of Prime Minister Imran Khan. Khalid had contributed a cartoon showing PM Imran Khan as a horse before a cart being made to run for the carrot by American President Donald Trump, with Indian PM Narendra Modi sitting by Trump’s side. The Nation apologised for publishing the cartoon. After the apology, they also told Khalid Hussain to stop drawing cartoons for the national daily. It is pertinent to mention here that The Nation, the English daily owned the Nawaiwaqt group, was founded by late Majid Nizami who always took pride in ‘speaking truth to power’. Last October, the group’s news channel ‘Waqt News’ was suddenly shut down after sacking the entire staff, citing ‘financial crunch’.
