The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has ordered the release of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl’s (JUI-F) central leader Mufti Kifayatullah on bail.
Islamabad police had arrested Mufti Kifayatullah on Sunday on charges of inciting people to participate in his party’s Azadi March against the government, and collecting donations in this regard.
The bail petition filed by JUI-F was heard by a two-member bench of Justice Ijaz Anwar and Justice Shakeel Ahmad in Abbottabad.
Mufti Kifayatullah is imprisoned in Haripur jail, and is expected to join the Azadi March caravan following his release.
The JUI-F leader had been arrested a day after the government and JUI-F reached an agreement on the venue of the march.
Meanwhile, the caravan led by JUI-F chief Fazlur Rehman has reached Gujar Khan in Rawalpindi district. Another caravan from Peshawar, which consists of participants from Balochistan and the rest of KP, is also expected to reach Islamabad after the main caravan.
