Meesha Shafi Offers Support To Filmmaker Jami After He Shared His MeToo Story
Actor and singer Meesha Shafi has come out in support of filmmaker Jami, who had recently said that he had been raped by a powerful media person.

On Sunday, Jamshed Mehmood, popularly known as Jami, had stated on Twitter that he had been raped by a powerful person in media 13 years ago. He had shared his ordeal to support the MeToo movement, which was under criticism following the suicide of a Lahore college lecturer due to his university administration’s inability to deal with sexual harassment allegations against him.

Meesha Shafi, who is considered to have started the MeToo movement in Pakistan when she accused musician Ali Zafar of sexual harassment, has offered her support to the filmmaker.

In a series of tweets, she first criticised those who did not believe victims of sexual harassment, adding, “You don’t want change for the better. You only want to pretend to be upset as long as it doesn’t involve anything more uncomfortable than typing #neverforget.”

In an apparent comment about those who do not believe victims of sexual crimes, she stated, “Anyone who shows you a reflection of your demons, You draw dagger at, shouting how dare there be any free men?”
