GDA Wins Larkana By-Polls, Bilawal Alleges Rigging

GDA Wins Larkana By-Polls, Bilawal Alleges Rigging
Pakistan People’s Party Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari has stated that he would challenge the 'rigging' in the PS-11 Larkana II by-polls following his party candidate’s loss.

On Thursday, by-elections for the Sindh Assembly constituency in Larkana were held, in which Grand Democratic Alliance's (GDA) candidate Moazzam Ali Abbasi emerged victorious according to unofficial results.

In August, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had announced a re-election in PS-11 after a Supreme Court verdict had de-seated Abbasi.

As per unofficial results, Abbasi received 31,557 votes as opposed to his PPP rival, Jamil Soomro’s 26,021 votes.

After the election was over, Bilawal stated in a post on Twitter that the party would be challenging the rigging that had taken place in the by-polls. He stated, "We will challenge this rigging at every forum. The truth can’t be hidden. We will expose this selection. We will have a re-election and take back this seat."

He added that during the polls, Rangers had taken over the inside of the polling stations, harassed women voters, removed polling agents from polling stations, and slowed down the polling process. He further said that voting in polling stations where the PPP could possibly perform well was delayed.

Bilawal further stated that PPP’s candidate was not even allowed inside the polling station, and the ECP did not intervene despite repeated requests, adding that this had exposed ECP’s ‘malafide intent’.
