Former NA Deputy Speaker Challenges Disqualification Of Election In Supreme Court
Former deputy speaker of the National Assembly has challenged the disqualification of his National Assembly seat in the Supreme Court.
Last week, Qasim Suri’s victory in the 2018 elections from his constituency NA265 had been declared void. The tribunal had further directed the Election Commission of Pakistan to hold a re-election in the constituency.
Qasim Suri’s petition challenging the disqualification of his NA seat has been filed by Naeem Bukhari. The petition calls for the election tribunal’s decision to be declared void.
The petition has stated that Qasim Suri could not be held responsible for the irregularities in the election process.
Qasim Suri had emerged victorious in NA-265 by defeated Nawabzada Lashkari Raisani of the Balochistan National Party. Raisani had challenged the result and had alleged that rigging had occurred.
