Firdous Ashiq Issued Contempt Of Court Notice For Comments On Nawaz’s Bail
The deputy registrar of Islamabad High Court has served a show cause notice to Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan for criticising the bail granting order to former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.

The notice cited Firdous Ashiq’s comments in which she had criticised the judiciary and had stated that the bail would open a ‘floodgate of similar requests’ by prisoners suffering from various diseases.

The notice also pointed out Firdous Ashiq’s statement that the case of the accused was heard during the evening ‘as a special dispensation’.

Moreover, the notice stated that she had attempted to scandalise the court and such comments were unwarranted considering she was a special assistant to the PM. Hence, the notice stated, her comments call for action against her under the Contempt Of Court Ordinance, 2003.

Former PM Nawaz Sharif was granted bail on medical grounds for eight weeks by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) yesterday. The court has further ruled that if Nawaz Sharif’s health condition remained poor after 8 weeks, he may reach out to the Punjab government for extension in the bail.
