Family Of Sahiwal Victims Accepts Acquittal Of CTD Personnel
Sahiwal

Following the acquittal of the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) personnel in the Sahiwal encounter case, the family of the victims has accepted the court verdict.

A news report in Dawn cited the brother of the deceased as saying that the family had no intention to challenge the ATC verdict.

In a video clip, the victim Mohammad Khalil’s brother, Mohammad Jalil, could be heard saying that the family trusted the institutions and did not want to engage in politics over the issue.

In January, personnel of the Counter-Terrorism Department had opened fire on the passengers of a vehicle on a highway near Sahiwal.

The First Information Report against six CTD personnel was registered after the family had protested.

The FIR registration was managed by the CTD which appointed a sub-inspector as in-charge of the investigation. Till date, no one has questioned who ordered the operation.

It was on Jalil’s request that the chief justice had formed a joint investigation team to further probe the case.

During the investigation, Jalil and his lawyers had claimed that some CTD personnel were threatening his family and had demanded security.
