Court Rejects Petition Seeking Action Against Maulana Fazl's 'Anti-State' Remarks
Islamabad

The Islamabad High Court has rejected the petition against Maulana Fazlur Rehman which sought action against him for his comments against state institutions.

The court has maintained that institutions should play a role that does not attract any criticism, as in a globalised world with social media, it was difficult to stop everyone from expressing their opinion.

According to reports, Justice Athar Minaullah heard the petition seeking action against the JUI-F chief for his comments against state institutions.

Justice Minaullah in his remarks upheld the right of freedom of expression, saying that such comments made no difference to anyone. The judge further spoke of Imam Abu Hanifa, who used to allow his students to express their disagreements to him.

The judge said, "Our characters should be such that no one should make comments about us. In a globalised world with social media, it was difficult to prevent everyone from expressing their opinion."

The court then proceeded to reject the petition seeking action against Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman.
