China Closely Following Kashmir Issue, Says Clear About Situation
China has reportedly informed Pakistan that it was closely following the situation in Kashmir and would back Pakistan on all issues related to the latter’s core interests.

According to a report in Xinhua News, Chinese President Xi Jinping made these comments during his meeting with Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday. During the meeting, leaders of both countries vowed to ‘strengthen strategic coordination and pragmatic cooperation’ in order to increase ties between the Pakistani and Chinese community.

PM Imran Khan apprised Chinese president Xi Jinping on the Kashmir situation, and appreciated China’s objective position on the matter.

In response, Xi stated that China was paying close attention to the Kashmir situation and that the facts regarding the matter were clear. He added that China supported Pakistan in its attempts to safeguard its own legitimate rights.

Moreover, a joint statement issued after the meeting quoted the Chinese side as having told PM Imran that the matter should be resolved peacefully based on the United Nations Charter, relevant UNSC resolutions, and bilateral agreements.

The Chinese side also opposed unilateral action which it said would complicate the situation.

According to Rezaul Hassan, India responded to the comments made by the Chinese president by saying, “It is not for other countries to comment on the internal affairs of India.”

India and China are set to have an informal summit in the coming days. India has made it clear to China that Kashmir and Article 370 would not be up for discussion at the summit.
