Residents Thrash Anti-Dengue Team, Detain Woman Worker

An anti-dengue team was allegedly thrashed and a woman among them detained by the inmates of a house they had gone for an anti-dengue spray in Officers’ Colony, Morgah.

According to a report in Dawn, the team, comprising of Shahbaz Ali Malik, in-charge of the anti-dengue team, Nabeela Bibi, Kamran Khalid, Amira Bibi and others rang the doorbell of Chaudhry Afzal in Officers’ Colony in order to get permission for an anti-dengue spray.

Shahbaz, who lodged a complaint with the police, said that a man identified as Khuram along with other people came outside the house and put up resistance. They also beat up the members of the team and abused them.


The FIR also stated that Nabeela was detained in a room by the inmates of the house.

The police is yet to make an arrest in connection with the case.

Meanwhile, health department carried out a snap checking in Police Colony in the vicinity of the Police Lines Headquarters and found that there was a possibility of a dengue epidemic in the locality as they were mosque breeding sites with dengue larvae in the street.

A health official told media, “The street is packed with dengue larvae, brushes are grown on the rooftops of the residential quarters and one part of the police lines has turned into a junkyard of impounded vehicles with brushes grown inside.”

The official added that they had declared an emergency in the police colony and residents had been warned of an epidemic of dengue.

Regarding measures to prevent dengue, the health team had advised residents of the area to keep their houses and its surroundings clean and to wear clothes that covered the skin.


Moreover, health officials also warned parents to keep a check on their children for signs of fever, severe headache, pain behind eyes or muscle and joint pain.

A resident of the colony informed media that the health department paid a visit to the area and made videos of the mosquito breeding sites. They also pasted stickers with warnings but the stickers were removed after their departure from the area.
