Rawalpindi Police Arrest Cleric For Sexually Abusing 12-year-old
Rawalpindi Police arrested a cleric on the charge of sexually abusing a madrassah student in the Dhamial Area on Friday.

The arrest was made by the Saddar Bairooni Police and was based on the medical examination of a 12-year-old student who is allegedly the victim.

Police informed media that the incident was brought to the attention of City Police Officer Mohammad Faisal Rana, who ordered Superintendent Police Saddar Rai Mazhar to conduct a medical examination of the child and take action against the accused.

The police took action and had a medical examination of the child. The examination proved that the child had been abused and the suspect was arrested.

When the suspect was about to be arrested, him and some other people tried to prove his innocence and shouted slogans against the police.

The police have also decided to conduct a DNA test. Meanwhile, a case has been registered against the cleric on the complaint of the child’s father.

While talking to media, SP Iqbal said that all measures would be taken to investigate the case on merit, including conducting a DNA test and other legal formalities.

Moreover, the CPO has also directed the SP to investigate whether there were other sexual abuse victims, and if any such case exists, separate FIRs should be registered for each crime.

The CPO also added that in case the police comes across another case of child sexual abuse and the family does not want to become a complainant due to social pressure, police would become the complainant in the FIR.

The incident comes days after a dress code, which was later revoked, was issued for schoolgirls in Haripur. Many people had criticised the decision, saying that dress codes will not offer protection to girls and that incidents of sexual abuse occur in places like Madrassahs where the students dress properly. This incident upholds the views of the people who criticised the imposition of the dress code.
