Police Suspect Serial Killer Behind Murder Of Three Children
KASUR: Police rounded off 20 suspects in connection with the sexual assault and murder of three children in the city.
Police believe that it is possible that a serial killer was behind the incidents of sexual assaults and murders.
Earlier, the body of eight-year-old Muhammad Faizan was found at an industrial estate while the remains of two more boys were also found nearby in Chunian district.
According to media reports, the three children had been reported missing since the middle of the year while another child disappeared last week.
Elaborating further, Police said, “After the recovery of the three bodies from the same spot, there is a strong possibility that a serial killer is behind the incidents.”
District Police Officer (DPO) Zahid Nawaz told media persons on Monday that DNA samples of the 20 suspects had been sent to a lab for testing.
The incidents of child abuse and murders have been on the rise in Kasur. Hundreds of people took to the streets to protest the killing of the minors last week.
In the past, Chunian district has been hit by many incidents of abuse and violence against minors. Locals said that incidents of abuse are on the rise due to the culture of impunity and lack of official action against the perpetrators.
Videos of hundreds of local children being sexually assaulted were circulated in the area in 2015, which was termed as the worst child abuse incident ever reported in Pakistan’s history.
According to child advocates, Pakistan has a serious problem with child abuse. Child protection watchdog Sahil reported more than 3,800 cases of sexual abuse and violence against children in 2018.
