The investigation for the case of blasphemy against a school principal in Ghotki has been transferred to the Hyderabad police.
According to a report in Dawn, a police source in Karachi stated that following a recommendation by a board headed by the Sukkur DIG, Sindh police had been directed to transfer the investigation to any district other than Ghotki.
The suspect was shifted to Hyderabad after riots had broken out in Ghotki on September 15.
Following the blasphemy allegations, a Hindu temple was also vandalised by rioters. The Ghotki police had lodged three cases against those who had rioted and ransacked the school and temple.
The case for vandalism was also registered under the blasphemy law. However, at a press conference earlier, civil rights activist Ali Ahmed Palh had claimed that the case should have been lodged under Section 295-A of the Pakistan Penal Code.
It has also come to notice that the DIG is yet to appoint anyone as an inquiry officer in the case.
Meanwhile, Sukkur region police Assistant Inspector General Dr Jamil Ahmed has claimed that police wanted a safe and transparent investigation. He added that they wanted to ensure the protection of the accused which is why the board had been constituted that recommended the transfer of the investigation.

The suspect in the blasphemy case is currently in the ‘protective custody’ of Hyderabad police. However, he is yet to be produced before any court of law.
