Chief of Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa on Tuesday said the country’s military will “go to any extent” to support people in the Indian-held Kashmir, after the Narendra Modi-led government in India revoked the special status enjoyed by the territory.

“Pakistan Army firmly stands by the Kashmiris in their just struggle to the very end,” said General Qamar Javed Bajwa at the corps commanders’ conference in Rawalpindi.

“We are prepared and shall go to any extent to fulfil our obligations in this regard,” he added, without elaborating further.

Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR) DG Maj Asif Ghafoor in a series of tweets said that the forum fully supported the government’s rejection of Indian actions regarding Kashmir. Pakistan never recognised the sham Indian efforts to legalise its occupation of Jammu and Kashmir through Article 370 or 35A decades ago, he added.
