A Pakistani national has said that he faced physical torture, psychological and sexual harassment and abuse in the United Arab Emirates after being arrested arbitrarily.
Narrating his story, Muhammad Saad said he had worked as a consultant for PricewaterhouseCoopers Pakistan and later joined Indian firm Tech Mahindra as Senior Oracle EPM Consultant for consultancy project work for Abu Dhabi Ports in Abu Dhabi.
According to Saad, he resigned from the job for MBA admission offer from American University in Dubai and was apprehended by the local police on March 13, 2019, while he was traveling from Abu Dhabi to Saudi Arabia on a visit visa.
“I was neither shown any arrest warrant nor was informed about the charges” for the arbitrary arrest, Saad said.
“I was detained overnight in a nearby police station prison on border area, stripped off all the communication modes and denied any consular or counsel access. I was then transferred to a remote Abu Dhabi Madinat Zayed Prisoner Facility on next day where I was kept in detention for seven days without any charge levelled and intimated to me.”
Saad said he was recurrently psychologically and sexually harassed in the facility by the police officers, forcing to perform the sexual acts and attempting to rape him.
According to Saad, he was then transferred to the Abu Dhabi Al Shahama Prisoner Facility on March 20 for about 13 days, where he was brutally tortured. “I was sexually abused by the police officers burgeoning in the Male Toiletries. I was chained and shackled.”
“My clothes were torn by the police officers and I was molested and abused multiple times. I got frail and deeply sick and was eventually put on the deportation list and deported April 3,” said Saad.
He added that he wasn’t allowed to report the offence to the UAE authorities and the local police was complicit in the crimes committed against him.
On his arrival back home, medical revealed that due to the physical torture, psychological and sexual abuse, he sustained Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), nerve damage and neurological disorders.
Saad said he reported the matter to the Pakistani authorities and asked them to pursue the case on his behalf but no relief was provided.
However, Saad has submitted a formal complaint against the UAE authorities.
The torture victim has appealed the people to raise issue and bring the perpetrators to justice.
